Zijde moet apart worden gewassen vanwege de lagere kleurechtheid in vergelijking met andere materialen.

Handwas wordt aanbevolen voor kwetsbare items zoals kant, lingerie, wol, zijde of zeer donkere kleuren die kunnen afgeven. Gebruik lauw of koud water onder de 30°C en knijp voorzichtig uit. Keer het kledingstuk binnenstebuiten bij het ophangen en vermijd direct zonlicht bij het drogen.

Strijk de kleding pas als deze voor minstens ¾ droog is. De aanbevolen strijktemperatuur ligt tussen de 100°C en 180°C, afhankelijk van de stof.

Zet de stoomstand hoog tijdens het strijken van zijde, omdat hiervoor veel vocht nodig is. Bevochtig de zijde licht met water, leg het kledingstuk met de buitenkant naar beneden op de strijkplank en gebruik een persdoek.
